LEXINGTON, Ky. – Georgia Tech volleyball (13-3, 4-2 ACC) jumped up to No. 16 in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Women’s Poll, the AVCA announced on Monday.
Since appearing in the Top 25 at No. 12 on Sept. 30, 2020, Tech has been listed in 30 straight top 25 polls to date. The Jackets are joined in the poll by No. 2 Louisville and No. 4 Pitt among the ACC ranks. Tech also climbed to No. 8 in the NCAA’s Rating Percentage Index after being tabbed 12th in the first RPI release of the season.
Tech ties its season-best ranking following a historic weekend in which the Jackets swept ACC foe Virginia before handing No. 4 Pitt (previously No. 2) its first loss of the season in five sets. Georgia Tech’s triumph marked the highest ranked win and the second top-five victory in program history. The Yellow Jackets’ previous highest ranked victory also came on the road in five sets over No. 5 Nebraska in 2003.
Georgia Tech has now won 45 of its last 54 matches dating back to 2019. The Yellow Jackets have won 27 of their last 31 games at home in O’Keefe Gymnasium and are a perfect 6-0 in true road matches this season, going 4-0 away from The Flats in ACC play.
On the year, Georgia Tech boasts some of the top numbers in the country, ranking sixth in the nation in kills per set (14.45) and 10th in the NCAA in assists per set (13.16) while leading the ACC in both categories.
Junior outside hitter Julia Bergmann has been the driving force behind Tech’s vaunted attack, leading the ACC in both points per set and kills per set. On a national scale, her 5.36 points per set rank ninth in the country while her 4.59 kills per set are good for 12th in the nation. Senior setter Matti McKissock has been the architect behind the Yellow Jackets’ strong assist numbers, leading the ACC and placing 14th in the nation in assists per set (10.98) as she continues her climb in Georgia Tech history, owning the seventh most career assists of all time to date.
