THE FLATS – Derrick Favors leads Jazz to five-straight victories … Jarrett Jack nears triple-double (again) in the wake of Porginzis injury … Thaddeus Young continues to battle the Pacers back to form heading into the All-Star Break … All of this and more can be found in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report.
Despite having his streak of five-straight double-figure scoring games snapped, Derrick Favors has led the Utah Jazz to five-straight victories, reclaiming the surge the team had at the beginning of the season. Favors recorded 14 points and six rebounds in the nine-point win over the Spurs before going for 19 points and seven rebounds against New Orleans in the 133-109 win on the road. The Grizzlies’ tough defense held him to just two points, but Favors was still able to collect eight boards and make two steals to help in the 92-88 win.
Still collecting 6-7 minutes per contest this season, Marcus Georges-Hunt sat out Wednesday night’s game against Cleveland (a 140-138 loss) due to illness. The Cavaliers continue to search for answers as they’ve dropped three of their last five now.
Jarrett Jack neared a triple-double on Jan. 2 against Milwaukee when he recorded 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The Knicks were unable to secure the win over the Bucks, contributing to a strong of four losses now that Kristaps Porzingis has a torn ACL. Despite the up-and-down season, head coach Jeff Hornacek continues to praise Jack’s performance as a starter.
After Iman Shumpert returned from injury for six minutes in the 102-114 loss to San Antonio on Jan. 23, he’s returned to the bench for the last four games, having not played since. Shumpert injured his knee earlier in the season and ultimately required surgery.
Thaddeus Young continues to turn his season around after a tough-stretch over the middle of the season. Continuing to fill the stat sheet, Young put up 10 points, three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal against the 76ers, before going for seven points and seven rebounds against the Washington Wizards. Winning three of their last five and a tough Friday night game at Boston on the horizon, the Pacers will need to click if they want to continue momentum into the All-Star Break.
