THE FLATS –Derrick Favors and the Jazz will battle with the Hawks, Iman Shumpert and the Rockets hold steady at the three seed, and Josh Okogie has averaged 7.5 points a game in his rookie season … That and more in this edition of the Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report.
Young added nine points and seven rebounds in a 115-109 loss to the Clippers. In the Pacers’ last 10 games he has averaged 10.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. For the season, he has averaged 12.4 points per game to go along with 6.5 rebounds per contest.
Iman Shumpert has helped the Rockets win three of their last five games and helping them climb the standings. Shumpert and the Rockets currently sit in third place in the Western Conference with Shumpert averaging 7.8 points per contest.
Favors and the Jazz will face the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night where he has averaged 14.0 points per game to go along with four assists per game. For the season the Jazz are fifth in the Western Conference. Favors has averaged 11.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season.
Josh Okogie and the Minnesota Timberwolves are sitting at the 10th seed in the competitive Western Conference. In their last 10 games the Timberwolves have won three games. In Okogie’s rookie season he has averaged, 7.5 points per game.
CBSSports.com reported before Christmas that Marcus Georges-Hunt underwent knee surgery and would miss extended playing time for the Maine Red Claws in the G League, though there has been very little reported about it. Georges-Hunt had averaged 13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals over 36 minutes per game in nine games for the Red Claws.
Jarrett Jack and the Sioux Falls Skyforce are currently 8th in the Eastern Conference standings in the NBA G-League with an overall record of 23-25.
#1. Charles Mitchell (6’8”-F/C-93, graduated ’16, plays pro in Argentina) could not help Ferro (15-9) in their game last Tuesday. Despite his very good performance Ferro was edged 77-76 on the road by the one of league’s weakest teams Atenas (#19). Mitchell recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 14 rebounds in 29 minutes. It’s Mitchell’s first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Mitchell averages 17.0ppg, 9.3rpg and 1.8apg.
#2. Josh Okogie (6’4”-G-98, graduated ’18, plays in the NBA) was not able to help the Minnesota Timberwolves (32-39) in their last game. Despite Okogie’s very good performance the Minnesota Timberwolves (32-39) lost 102-117 in Houston to the Rockets. He was the second best scorer with 21 points. Okogie also added 5 rebounds and 3 assists; quite an impressive performance considering it’s only his first season in pro basketball. It was Timberwolves’ fourth consecutive loss in a row. It’s Okogie’s first year with the team. Okogie has relatively good stats this season 7.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1spg in 64 games he played so far. He is a naturalized Nigerian.
#3. Derrick Favors (6’10”-F-91, graduated ’10, currently in the NBA), who plays in the NBA was not able to secure a victory for the Utah Jazz (42-29) in their game last Thursday. Despite his very good performance the Utah Jazz (42-29) was edged 117-114 at home by the Atlanta Hawks. Favors recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting the same number of rebounds in 27 minutes. It’s Favors’ eighth season with the team. This year he has very high stats. Favors averages 11.6ppg, 7.5rpg, 1.2apg and 1.5bpg.
#4. Thaddeus Young (6’8”-F-88, graduated ’07, plays pro in the NBA) couldn’t help the Indiana Pacers (44-28) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the Indiana Pacers (44-28) were crushed 112-89 in Oakland by the Golden State Warriors. Young was the second best scorer with 18 points. He also added 7 rebounds. It was Indiana Pacers’ third consecutive loss in a row. Young has very impressive stats this year 12.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 2.4apg and 1.6spg in 73 games.
#5. Trae Golden (6’3”-G-91, graduated ’14, plays in Russia) couldn’t help Avtodor (8-12) in their game last Sunday. Despite his very good performance Avtodor was defeated 89-78 in Riga by the lower-ranked VEF Riga (#10). Golden was the top scorer with 16 points. He also added 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 30 minutes. This season Golden has very high stats. He averages 17.0ppg, 2.5rpg and 7.7apg.
#6. James White (6’8”-F-93, graduated ’16, currently in Bulgaria) contributed to Beroe‘s victory against the fifth-ranked Academik Plovdiv 91-77 in the Bulgarian NBL last Saturday. He scored 10 points and blocked 3 shots. White has relatively good stats this year 11.2ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3spg in 12 games.
#7. Iman Shumpert (6’5”-G-90, graduated ’11, plays pro in the NBA) faced previously mentioned Josh Okogie in the NBA last game. Shumpert contributed to an easy victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves 117-102. He recorded 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 31 minutes. This season Shumpert averages 3.9ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.3apg.
#8. Daniel Miller (6’11”-C-91, graduated ’14, plays in Japan) was the major contributor in a Sendai 89ers‘ victory against the fifth-ranked Yamagata 77-69 in the Japanese B2 League in Sunday night’s game. He had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 13 rebounds. Miller also added 5 assists and 3 blocks. Miller has relatively good stats this year 14.4ppg, 11.4rpg, 3.8apg, 1.7bpg and 1.4spg in 45 games.
#9. Alade Aminu (6’10”-F/C-87, graduated ’09, currently in Israel), who plays in the Israeli Winner League couldn’t help Hapoel SP Tel-Aviv (9-13) in their game last Monday. Despite Aminu’s good performance Hapoel SP Tel-Aviv was defeated 95-89 in Ashdod by the lower-ranked Maccabi (#10). He recorded 11 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in 24 minutes. This season Aminu averages 9.7ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.1bpg.
#10. Experienced Anthony McHenry (6’8”-SF-83, graduated ’05, plays pro in Japan) led Shinshu BW to an easy victory against the fourth-ranked Fukushima 76-61 in the Japanese B2 League on Saturday night. He had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 12 rebounds. McHenry also added 7 assists, 2 blocks and 4 steals. McHenry has very impressive stats this year 18.2ppg, 9.7rpg, 5.3apg, 1.4bpg and 1.8spg in 42 games.
