ALVARADO GRATEFUL FOR LESSONS LEARNED AT TECH
Jose Alvarado has earned everything he has achieved in the NBA.
Alvarado, who signed a two-way contract with the Pelicans after going undrafted in 2021, continues to use the lessons he learned at Georgia Tech.
On Saturday night against the host Hawks, Alvarado used his ball movement and sharp passing to boost the Pelicans’ bench in a 124-121 overtime loss. He finished with four assists and five points in about 16 minutes.
“When Jose gets in the game, you know what he’s going to bring,” Pelicans coach Willie Green said. “His toughness, he is going to bring energy and an extremely fast pace. He makes the right play over and over again, so we can depend on him.”
Alvarado, who is 11th all-time in career assists at Georgia Tech with 384, received a four-year, $6.5 million contract from the Pelicans earlier this year.

A CASE FOR THE CELTICS PURSUING DERRICK FAVORS
With Danilo Gallinari potentially missing the entire 2022-23 season while rehabbing from a torn ACL, the NBA granted the Boston Celtics a $3.23 million Disabled Player Exception, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Celtics can use the exception either to trade for someone who makes $3.23 million or less or sign someone outright in free agency. On the Vitamin C’s podcast, Heavy Sports’ Adam Taylor listed Derrick Favors as one possible option the Celtics could look into.
“He’s big, strong, he can rebound, he can defend. He’s more like an Al Horford, where he kind of guards the angles rather than guards the man. He really forces you to go weak, which is when you’re going onto your weaker hand. Offensively, he’s going to be able to battle for offensive rebounds, give you some post moves, give you some hustle,” Taylor said.
Derrick Favors anyone?
Or promote Kabengele. Need another big man, like yesterday. pic.twitter.com/shXBM8K6kL

BANKS STARTS OUT STRONG FOR LEGENDS
James Banks posted 16 points (6-7 FG, 2-3 FT), eight rebounds, four blocks and one assist in 20 minutes during Saturday’s 127-122 loss to the Austin Spurs.
Banks was very productive before he fouled out, which limited his minutes. Not only was he efficient in scoring the ball, he also led the team in rebounds and blocks.
