CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis started ITA Kickoff Weekend with a win against Middle Tennessee State, 4-2.
The match started with doubles action. The No. 3 doubles pairing in the nation of Marcus McDaniel and Andres Martin made quick work of No. 44 Motl/Slump winning their doubles match 6-1. The Yellow Jackets would ultimately drop No. 3 doubles 6-3 and then No. 2 doubles 7-5 leading to Middle Tennessee State taking the doubles point.
Heading into singles action down a point, Pablo Schelcher took the momentum back, dominating his match 6-1, 6-1.
Facing a ranked opponent, Chen Dong took down No. 106 Stepan Hollis 6-4, 6-1 to give Tech a 2-1 lead. Marcus McDaniel took his match 7-5, 6-3 before Brandon McKinney dropped his match 6-3, 6-2.
All eyes turned to court one where No. 9 Martin was facing No. 30 Stijn Slump. This match was tight throughout but Martin proved victorious on the day 7-5, 7-5, clinching the 4-2 victory for Tech.
The White and Gold return to action on Sunday for the Championship match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend against No. 6 Virginia.
