Georgia Tech Men's Tennis Heads to ITA Mideast Regional

Six Georgia Tech men’s tennis players will begin play in the 2005 Wilson/ITA Mideast Regional Men’s Tennis Championships this week on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. The tournament will begin Wednesday and run through Sunday with the finals and consolation finals in singles as well as the finals and consolation finals in doubles being held on the final day of competition.

The tournament will showcase players from 21 different schools around the mideast, including several ranked singles players and doubles teams. There is one flight, which will have a 96-player singles draw and a 32-team doubles bracket, both with consolation draws.

The flight singles and doubles winners, along with the singles finalist in the “A” bracket will advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships, which are scheduled to be held in November at Ohio State.

The Jackets begin action Wednesday when George Gvelesiani faces Jeffrey Schnell from American at 12 p.m. in the qualifying singles bracket, which consists of 64 players. The remaining five players (Scott Blackmon, Jordan Delass, David North, Marko Rajevac and Zachary Rath) each received entries into the Main Draw and will begin competition on Thursday.

In doubles action, all three teams received entries into the Main Draw. The No. 9 team of North and Rajevac will pair as a team as will the tandem of Blackmon and Rath as well as Delass and Gvelesiani.

Complete draws will be posted Wednesday evening and will be posted on the tournament website at www.tarheelblue.com. Results for all Georgia Tech players will be posted on the Georgia Tech website at the end of each day’s play at www.ramblinwreck.com
