Georgia Tech Men's Tennis Falls to Middle Tennessee State

The No. 35 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to No. 53 Middle Tennessee State, 6-1, Saturday afternoon. The Blue Raiders improve to 5-1 while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-1 on the season.

The Jackets dropped the first point of the match as Tech lost two of three doubles matches. The tandem of David North and Marko Rajevac fell to No. 58 Andreas Siljestrom and Marco Born, 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and then lost the point when Sukhwa Young and Jordan Delass lost to Greg Pollack and Anant Sitaram at No. 3 doubles, 8-6. Tech’s only victory in doubles came at No. 2 as Scott Blackmon and Jose Muguruza combined to upset No. 29 Brandon Allan and Kai Schledorn, 8-6.

After dropping the doubles point the Jackets could not regroup, losing five of six singles matches. At No. 1 singles, No. 72 Siljestrom upset No. 25 Muguruza in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, North fell to Born, 6-4, 6-3 while at No. 3, Rajevac was defeated by Schledorn, 6-4, 6-1. Tech’s lone win came at No. 5 as Jordan Delass defeated Greg Pollack, 6-2, 7-6 (4).

In other matches, Young lost to Sitaram in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 4 and George Gvelesiani was defeated by Allan at No. 6, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 10-5.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday when they host cross-town rival Georgia State at 3 p.m. in the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
