THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis earned the ITA All-Academic Team award for the 2022-23 season. Individually, Keshav Chopra, Marcus McDaniel and Brandon McKinney were honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Monday.
To be named an ITA Scholar Athlete, a student-athlete must have compiled a grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the entire academic year. Teams must have compiled at least a 3.2 grade-point average with all members of the team factored in.
All three players previously were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team for men’s tennis in June. Chopra and McKinney have been named ITA Scholar-Athletes for the fourth time each.
A junior from Marietta, Ga., Chopra produced a 20-11 overall singles record that included an 18-8 dual ledger, mainly from the No. 3 singles position. A business administration major, Chopra went 9-3 against league opponents, proving victorious in four of his final five matches. In doubles, he partnered with Andres Martin to close out the spring slate as the duo went 5-0 on the season.
A mainstay at the No. 2 singles position, McDaniel compiled a 24-11 overall singles record this season. The junior from Vacaville, Calif., went 18-7 in dual action and earned a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship with Martin, making a run to the quarterfinals to garner ITA All-American honors.
McKinney, a senior business administration major from Marietta, Ga., helped lead Tech in its doubles lineup, collecting eight wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. He partnered with McDaniel and Elias Shokry to close out the season, winning two of the final four matches with McDaniel.
