Georgia Tech Goes 4-0 In Singles On Day Two Of Southern Shootout

THE FLATS – For the second time in as many days, Georgia Tech women’s tennis senior Elizabeth Kilborn earned an upset win over a ranked opponent in singles play at the Southern Shootout hosted by Georgia State at the Sharon Lester Tennis Center at Piedmont Park in Atlanta.

Kilborn improved to 2-0 in singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 win over NC State’s 19th-ranked Joelle Kissell in the Peachtree Flight. Yesterday, Kilborn defeated 29th-ranked Ecaterina Vasenina of USF in three sets.

Tech sophomore Jasmine Minor earned a 6-4 first-set win over NC State’s Chloe Smith. After dropping a 6-3 second set, Minor rallied for a 6-2 third-set win to claim the match victory.

Yellow Jacket freshman Kendal Woodard improved to 2-0 in her young collegiate career with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over the Wolfpack’s Christy Snipes in the Centennial Olympic Flight. Woodard has not dropped a set in her first two matches.

Freshman Natasha Prokhnevska earned her first win, a 6-2, 6-2 decision over NC State’s Sophie Nelson.

In doubles play, Alex Anghelescu and Minor earned their second tough victory of the year with an 8-6 win over Georgia State’s Natallia Vavulina and Maryna Kozachenko.

Tech’s fall-opening tournament will wrap up tomorrow. Doubles play will begin at 9 a.m. and will be followed by singles play.
