THE FLATS – In a nod to its famed Black Watch defenses of the 1980s, Georgia Tech football will debut special black adidas uniforms for Saturday’s home game against Bowling Green at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field.

Part of adidas’ “Ghost Uniforms” series, the Yellow Jackets newest uni set features a glow-in-the-dark black jersey and black pants with white and gold numerals, logos and piping, paired with a gold helmet that includes a black interlocking GT logo with a white outline and black and white striping.
The state-of-the-art adidas uniforms also feature circular knit for 360-degree mobility and high-density yards for durability. The circular-knit construction provides an overall locked-in feel with improved moisture management and cooling zones.
Georgia Tech wore black jerseys for home games under legendary alumnus and head coach Bill Curry in the 1980s. The Black Watch defense was coined for the Yellow Jackets’ ACC-leading units under defensive coordinator Don Lindsey in 1984 and ’85. Lindsey dubbed the most prominent players on his Tech defenses the “Black Watch,” in honor of the famed Scottish military forces that took the same name beginning in the 1700s.
Notable Black Watch defenders included defensive back Cleve Pounds, linebacker Ted Roof and defensive end/outside linebacker Pat Swilling, a first-team all-American who went on to be a five-time NFL Pro Bowler with the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
Fan apparel – including adult and youth jerseys, t-shirts, and more – will be available at RamblinWreckStore.com (the official online store of Georgia Tech athletics – click HERE to access), as well as on gameday at merchandise locations throughout Bobby Dodd Stadium.
