GEORGIA TECH FOOTBALL

Post-Practice Report – August 9, 2007

Practice #8

Rose Bowl Field

10:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Format: Full pads

Weather: 100 degrees (at the conclusion of practice)

Georgia Tech held its lone practice of the day late this morning and it coincided with the highest temperatures of the year. The Yellow Jackets pushed through the heat, practicing for more than two hours in full gear.

Notebook:

— Junior offensive tackle A.J. Smith’s elbow injury, suffered at practice on Tuesday, will keep him out of practice for “a short amount of time” according to head coach Chan Gailey.

— Sophomore tight end Colin Peek continues to sit out of drills with a tender Achilles.

Fact of the Day:

In the 1993 film Rudy, Rudy Ruettiger’s only game experience for Notre Dame came against none other than Georgia Tech. If you look closely at the movie, however, you can see a BostonCollege banner in the background. The scene where Rudy finally gets in a game was shot during halftime of the 1992 NotreDame-BostonCollege game. Notre Dame is Georgia Tech’s season-opening opponent Sept. 1 in South Bend.

By The Numbers:

3 – Number of years it took junior defensive tackle Darryl Richard to graduate from Georgia Tech. He is currently taking graduate level courses.

12 – Number of ACC victories by the Yellow Jackets over the previous two seasons combined. Only Virginia Tech (13 wins) won more conference games.

26 – Number of consecutive starting assignments by senior defensive tackle Adamm Oliver.

On the extreme heat:

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen it like this… It’s good though. We want it to be more difficult in camp than it will be in any game.”

On the defense:

“I feel like we have a great front seven. I’m just glad to be a part of this defense.”

On the extreme heat:

“It is pretty hot out here. They do a good job of keeping us hydrated. They really do a good job of taking care of us. We weigh before and after practice to make sure we don’t drop too much weight.”

Quoting Head Coach Chan Gailey

On the extreme heat:

“We did our full practice today. We have cut back on the two-a-days because we don’t want to overextend them. We talk to them every day about getting rest and staying hydrated.”
