Georgia Tech Cross Coutnry to Run in ACC Championships

ATLANTA (Oct. 28) – Georgia Tech’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will run in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship meet Monday, November 1 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Both Yellow Jacket squads will look to improve on seventh-place finishes from last season.

“We are excited about competing in the ACC Championship and this is the big race we prepare for during the season,” said head coach Alan Drosky, who is currently in his ninth year at Tech. “The men will run without two of our top performers due to injury, as Joe Stegall and Phillip Gable are unavailable. The women’s squad has had a solid season with two first and two second place finishes and needs to use that experience to do well in the conference meet.”

The womens team will be led by senior Becky Megesi (Jonesboro, Ga.) who will look to challenge for all-ACC honors in her final season. An all-NCAA District IX honoree a year ago, she captured first place at the Clemson Invitational and was sixth at the Alabama Crimson Classic. Tech, which lost by only one point to the Tigers at the Clemson Invitational, has received outstanding freshmen performances this year from Amy Dock (Charlotte, N.C.), Aenslee Tanner (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Katie Griffin (Stone Mountain, Ga.).

The men’s squad will be led by senior Brad Mills (Toledo, Ohio), who has been the Yellow Jackets’ top finisher in four meets this year. He had his best race at the Clemson Invitational, as he placed third in running the 8,000-meter course in 25:19. Tech has received a solid effort this year from sophomore Joey Zins (Atlanta, Ga.), who has been the squad’s second finisher behind Mills in four meet this year.

Tech will next run in the NCAA District IX Championship meet at Auburn, Ala., with the top two teams and four individuals advancing to the NCAA Championship meet in Bloomington, Ind.
