ATLANTA – For the first time since Jan. 21, 2008, the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (8-2) is ranked the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
The Yellow Jackets, ranked 25th in this week’s poll, are on the national radar for only the second week in the last 15 years. Prior to last season, the Jackets last earned a ranking of No. 23 in the Jan. 19, 1993 poll.
“We have now played teams from all five of the other power conferences this early in the season and it has been a tremendous experience for our players,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “These experiences have provided us a chance to earn this distinction. I look forward to what is ahead.”
The Jackets’ only two losses have come away from home — at No. 1 UConn and against No. 5 Texas. The two top-five programs are out-scoring their opponents by over 30 points a game, yet Tech dropped its two games by a combined 19 points and was within two possessions of each team late in the second half.

Tech, who is on a four-game winning streak, will continue its three-game 6,600 mile road trip Thursday against Winthrop in Nassau, Bahamas as part of the Sunsplash Shootout. Tipoff for the opening-round match-up is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
