Georgia Tech Competes At Samford Invite

The Georgia Tech track and field team is set to compete Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9, at the Samford Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.  

The meet will serve as the team’s final tune up in competition before the ACC Indoor Championships, Feb. 21-23 in Blacksburg, Va. Friday and Saturday of the Championships will be broadcast on ESPN3.

The Samford Invite is slated to begin Friday at 2 p.m. Central Time with the 60-meter dash of the women’s heptathlon. Friday is reserved for the multi-event athletes with the first four events of the Heptathlon and five events of the Pentathlon scheduled.

Saturday kicks off at 8 a.m. CT with the men’s 5,000 meters. Field events begin at 9 a.m. with the men’s weight throw.  

The men’s team is ranked No. 7 in the South Region in USTFCCCA’s most recent poll, while the women rank No. 17.

On the national level, Broderick Snoddy is No. 37 in the 60 meters, Shawn Roberts is No. 34 in the 800 meters and Jonathan Gardner is No. 21 in the triple jump.

On the women’s side, Julienne McKee is ranked nationally in two events – No. 13 in the triple jump and No. 23 in the long jump.

In Tech’s most recent action, Snoddy set the school record and placed first in the 60 meters performance, Roberts claimed first in the mile with a career-best time of 4:07.00. On the women’s side, McKee led the way with a 12.69m triple jump, finishing third.
