Georgia Tech Basketball Stinger Mobile Passes Sell Out in 2 Hours

Aug. 16, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Stinger Mobile Pass, a more flexible and alternative way for Yellow Jacket basketball fans to purchase tickets to home games in 2017-18, sold out within two hours of being offered to fans Wednesday.

The mobile pass guarantees the purchaser a ticket to every home game (excluding the Duke game – a total of 19 home games) for just $99, but the purchaser will receive priority to single-game tickets for the Duke game before they go on sale to the general public. Only 200 Stinger Mobile Passes were made available.

Tickets are delivered to the purchaser’s iPhone or Android phone on a game-by-game basis at the time of arrival at McCamish Pavilion. Seat locations change each game, allowing patrons to experience a different view of the court each time they watch the Jackets play.

The Georgia Tech Athletic Association partnered on the effort with Experience, a company offering mobile commerce and flexible ticket sales that allow sports and entertainment leaders to generate new revenue streams, sell more tickets, and make smarter decisions. The pass was promoted through Georgia Tech athletics’ social media channels, and we targeted a list of 20,000 people – new alumni, patrons who bought single-game tickets last season, past flex pack purchasers – through e-mail in the last couple of days.

“We wanted to provide our fans a better value, more flexible ticket option. So we partnered with Experience to offer the Stinger Mobile Pass,” said Mike Castle, director of ticketing. “It allows buyers the freedom to choose which games they want to attend. Mobile ticketing is an innovative and growing option for organizations like us around the country, and it helps us to provide a much more convenient way to buy tickets, and to deliver them.”

The success of the Stinger Mobile Pass underscores the building anticipation of Georgia Tech basketball in year 2 under head coach Josh Pastner. Season ticket sales surpassed the 2016-17 total in June, more than four months before the season begins in November. The Yellow Jackets won 21 games and advanced to the championship game of the National Invitation Tournament in Pastner’s first season.

Season tickets are still available for the Jackets’ 20-game home slate that features visits from NCAA Tournament teams Duke, Miami, Notre Dame, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest among the Georgia Tech’s nine home Atlantic Coast Conference games. Clemson, NC State and Syracuse also visit McCamish Pavilion, where Tech won a program-record 17 games last season. Northwestern (Big Ten/ACC Challenge) and Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee highlight the non-conference schedule.

Purchasing season tickets guarantee patrons the lowest price per game for all home games.
