In a match originally scheduled for Friday, the No. 28 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team will now face No. 36 Auburn Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Yellow Jackets enter the match with a 4-0 record while the Tigers stand at 4-1.
The Yellow Jackets, who moved up four spots in the Fila Rankings this week, face Auburn for the 26th time in school history and lead the series between the two schools, 24-11. The last time the two teams met was during the 2005 season in Auburn, Ala. and the Tigers won a close match, 4-3.
“We are looking forward to playing Auburn this weekend,” said head coach Kenny Thorne. “Last year it came down to the wire and they edged us in the third set of the last match. We are glad to be playing this one at home as I’m sure it will be just as competitive this year.”
To date, the Yellow Jackets have been led by George Gvelesiani, who owns a 4-0 record in singles play. On the doubles side, the Yellow Jackets feature David North and Rajevac, who are currently ranked No. 42 in the Fila Rankings, while the duo of Scott Blackmon and Zachary Rath have a perfect 4-0 record on the season.
The match will begin with doubles play at 12 p.m. followed by six singles matches and livestats will be provided at www.ramblinwreck.com. Admission to the Bill Moore Tennis Center is free.
