THE FLATS – Freshman Francesca Pan received her fourth ACC Rookie of the Week honor on Monday, as announced by the ACC office. Pan led Tech in both games last week, helping the Jackets to a 1-1 record.
“Francesca has had a great freshmen season and has elevated her game in ACC play,” commented Georgia Tech women’s basketball head coach MaChelle Joseph. “She has a tremendous future and we are very proud of her.”
For the week, Pan averaged 19.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. She opened the week leading the Jackets at North Carolina with 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting, before posting a team-high 20 points in the win over Pittsburgh on Sunday. Against the Panthers, Pan was 8-for-16 from the floor and 3-for-5 from three-point range. It marked her second 20-plus point game in three games, fourth of the season, and 13th double-figure scoring performance this season. She has now led Tech offensively in its last three outings.
The weekly ACC honor marks the fourth for Pan. The Bassano del Grappa, Italy native also earned the honor Nov. 28, Jan. 10 and Jan. 16. The last time Tech had a player named Rookie of the Week four times in the same season dates back to the 2013-14 season.
The weekly recognition marks the sixth for Georgia Tech this season as fellow classmate Chanin Scott also earned Rookie of the Week on Dec. 12, while junior Zaire O’Neil was tabbed ACC Player of the Week on Jan. 6.
Georgia Tech returns to action for its final regular season home game of 2016-17 this Thursday, Feb. 23 hosting Clemson at 7 p.m. The Jackets will recognize seniors Cha’Ron Sweeney and Katarina Vuckovic prior to tipoff for Senior Night.
