Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Four members of the Georgia Tech Men’s Tennis team won their matches on their first day of competition at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships on the campus of the University of Alabama Friday.
In the first round of singles competition Jordan DeLass defeated Nebraska’s Adrian Szatmary, 6-1, 6-2, while George Gvelesiani downed Mark Tate, 6-2, 6-1. Austin Roebuck was also victorious in singles, defeating Francois VanImpe, 6-4, 6-2. Both Scott Blackmon and Luke Rassow-Kantor lost Friday.
In the first round of doubles competition, Gvelesiani and Blackmon toppled Nebraska’s Hendrik Stahmer and Arturo Navarro, 8-0, then went on to defeat Miami’s Barnabas Carrega and Hector Nieto, 9-8(8). DeLass and Rassow-Kantor fell to Szatmary and Tate, 8-4, then fell to Miami’s Daniel Vallverdu and Vivek Subramanian, 8-3.
The Jackets will resume play at the Tennis Center at 9:00 a.m. when they all compete in another round of singles competition.
