THE FLATS – Four Georgia Tech track and field athletes head to Eugene, Ore. to compete in the NCAA Championships, which take place June 5-8 at Oregon’s Hayward Field. Sophomore Brandon Lasater, juniors Jonathan Gardner and Julienne McKee, and senior Jhanelle McLeod will represent Tech at the national meet.

Lasater kicks off action for the Jackets with the 800-meter semifinals Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. ET. The final for the 800 meters is set for 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The Perry, Ga. native qualified for his first NCAA Championships with a top-three finish in his heat in the preliminaries, followed by a 10th-place finish in the semifinals with a time of 1:48.49 at the NCAA East Preliminaries.

Gardner, McKee and McLeod will compete in the men’s and women’s triple jumps. The women compete first; beginning Friday at 6:25 p.m.

McKee is set for her second NCAA Championships after competing in the long and triple jumps in 2012. The Marietta, Ga., native leaped to a distance of 12.74m (41-9.75) at the NCAA East Preliminaries for a spot in the championships meet.

McKee is a 2013 indoor USTFCCCA first-team All-American and an indoor NCAA First-Team All-American after an eighth-place finish in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships.

McLeod excelled in the triple jump throughout the outdoor season. The Kingston, Jamaica, native took first in the triple jump at the ACC Outdoor Championships to earn All-ACC first team honors. Two weeks prior at the Florida Relays, she won the triple jump and set a new school record with a distance of 13.39m (43’11¼”).

Gardner wraps up the Jackets’ time in Eugene with the men’s triple jump Saturday at 3:30 p.m.  The Chicago, Ill., native placed 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 15.36m (50-4.75) to punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships.
