Four Georgia Tech women’s tennis players, including the No. 6 seed Kelly Anderson, advanced to the second round of the ITA Southern Regional Championships on Friday. The tournament is being contested at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens.
The sophomore Anderson defeated Georgia State’s Anne Breiholtz in the first round in a tough three-set match. She dropped the first set, 4-6, but came back to win the next two 6-4, 7-5. Sophomore Kacie Anson defeated Miami’s Sara Robbins in straight sets in round one, 7-6(4), 6-1 while senior Sekita Grant downed Auburn’s Ashley Cowart by a 7-5, 6-3 mark. Freshman Lindsey Stauss was the final Tech winner on the day as she defeated Auburn’s Isabel Rosenbrock in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
While a second round of singles play was scheduled for Friday afternoon, not all results were available at the time of this release. The round of 16 in singles, first round of singles consolations, and the first and second rounds of doubles are scheduled to begin Saturday.
