Senior Jerome Miller broke the Tech indoor high jump record for the third time this season, as the Georgia Tech track & field team posted two first place finishes at the Virginia Tech Elite Invitational Saturday in Blacksburg, Va. Four Jacket jumpers tallied career bests on the final day of competition at the Rector Field House
After breaking the record with heights of 7-04.25 and 7-04.50 earlier this season, Miller took it a half inch further with a first-place mark of 7-05.00. The Stafford, Va. native, who currently has the highest mark in the nation, added to his outstanding senior season by winning his fourth high jump title in four meets on the year. Miller came within just one inch of the ACC indoor record.
Finishing second behind Miller in the high jump was Tech freshman Mykhail Chambers. Chamber’s posted a season-best 6-06.75 as he continues to get more experience in his first year on the flats.
In the triple jump, junior Alphonso Jordan finished first with a career-best mark of 52-06.75. Jordan topped his previous career high by a whole two inches, and now has the third longest triple jump in Tech indoor history.
The final Jacket to complete a career day was sophomore Omar Morrison. Morrison leaped to a personal-best 49-01.50 and a fourth place finish at the meet.
Both men’s and women’s teams return to action next weekend in three separate groups, as they will travel to the Iowa State Classic, Tiger Paw Invitational and Tyson Invitational.
