Four Named To Volleyball All-ACC Academic Team

Feb. 22, 2012

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time in Georgia Tech volleyball history, four athletes have been named to the Volleyball All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team following the 2011 season. Kaleigh Colson, Susan Carlson, Monique Mead and Nicki Meyer have all earned the honor for the first time in their career.

Mead also earned All-ACC First Team honors, the first player since Ulrike Stegemann back in 2007 to earn both ACColades in the same season. Stegemann earned the honor in 2005, 06 and 07.

All four athletes are management majors at Georgia Tech, while Colson has a concentration in Business Administration.

To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Players from 11 different ACC schools are represented on this year’s All-ACC Academic Team, led by Duke’s five players, while Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, NC State, and Miami all have four players apiece.

Lane Carico of Miami was named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the first Miami volleyball player to earn the honor and sixth Hurricane to do so. This is her third time on the All-ACC Academic Team.
