Four @GT_MTEN Players Make ITA Rankings

Sept. 8, 2014

THE FLATS – As Georgia Tech’s men’s tennis team prepares to begin its fall season this weekend in Athens, Ga., four Yellow Jackets appear in either the singles or doubles pre-season rankings announced Monday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Nathan Rakitt, a junior from Marietta, Ga., who finished last spring ranked No. 115 in singles, begins the fall at No. 76 following a successful summer in which he reached the semi-finals of the ITA Summer Championships in August. Rakitt played primarily at the No. 1 position last spring in singles, going 8-9 at that spot and 19-20 overall, and has won 41 matches in two years with the Yellow Jackets.

Tech’s Spanish duo of senior Eduardo Segura and sophomore Carlos Benito, both of Madrid, Spain, are No. 20 in the doubles rankings after going 12-12 together last year, 10-11 in spring dual-match competition. Rakitt and sophomore Cole Fiegel, from Alachua, Fla., came in at No. 54 after posting s 10-10 mark last year, 6-6 in dual matches.

Rakitt also was placed in the qualifying singles draw for the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships to be held at the end of September in Tulsa, Okla. Benito and Segura are on the alternate list for the main draw of doubles, and will be in the qualifying draw if a spot does not open up. Rakitt and Fiegel will compete in the qualifying draw, which begins Sept. 30.
