LONDON, ENGLAND – Former Georgia Tech All-American Irina Falconi has qualified for the main draw of the 2011 Wimbledon Championships, which will be held June 20 through July 3 at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Falconi, who still resides in Atlanta, has now qualified for the main draw of all four Grand Slam events – US Open, Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon – since turning pro last summer.
Falconi earned her way into the 125th Championships with three wins in three days of qualifying matches, dropping just 12 total games.
On the first day of qualifying, Falconi downed Germany’s Anna-Lena Groenefeld, 6-3, 6-0. She followed that with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Elena Bogdan of Romania in the second round of qualifying on Wednesday, June 15.
Falconi finished her run through the qualifying stage with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Japan’s Junri Namigata in the third round of qualifying on Thursday, June 16.
Falconi will learn her main draw opponent after all qualifying matches are finished on Friday, June 17.
