Georgia Tech women’s tennis incoming freshman had a victorious weekend in Germany competing in the 25th International Junior Tournament of Offenbach. Flores claimed both the singles and doubles titles, qualifying her for the main draw singles and doubles events at the US Open Junior Championships in September in New York.
The Fort Dodge, Iowa native reached the semifinals of the singles draw by winning three straight-set matches in the early rounds before defeating Xin Yu Wang (China) in three sets to claim a spot in the finals. Flores rebounded from dropping the first set in the finals against Qinwen Zheng (China), succumbing just three games in the final two sets to capture the singles title.
In doubles action, Flores partnered with Thaisa Grana Pedretti from Brazil and the tandem captured four matches en route to the title. The pair defeated Tyra Black (USA) and Viktoriya Petrenko (UKR) in the title match, 6-2, 6-4.
With the victories, Flores’s International Tennis Federation world ranking jumped from No. 92 to No. 48. In September, the Yellow Jacket will head to Flushing Meadows, N.Y. to compete in the US Open Junior Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
