Flores, Jones Tabbed ITA All-Americans

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Victoria Flores and Kenya Jones were named among the elite women’s college tennis players, earning 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American honors on Monday. Both were named ITA All-Americans in singles and doubles as Tech’s No. 1 doubles team.

“Kenya and Vicky have both worked incredibly hard during their collegiate careers and being named ITA All-America is a great honor for them,” said Byers Women’s Tennis Head Coach Rodney Harmon. “They have both accomplished so much both on and off the court and I’m proud to call them Yellow Jackets.”

Posting an 18-8 record at the No. 1 singles spot, Jones led the Yellow Jackets from the top position all season, finishing with a 19-10 overall record and 9-2 Atlantic Coast Conference mark. Jones spent the entire season ranked in the nation’s top 10 in singles and finished ranked No. 7 in the final polls. She was tabbed all-ACC first team in April to mark her third all-ACC recognition during her collegiate career. The Memphis, Tenn., native made her second appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship, earning the No. 5 overall seed. Jones becomes a three-time All-American in singles, having earned the recognition in 2019 and 2020, becoming just the second Yellow Jacket in program history to earn three or more singles All-America honors.

Flores collected her first ITA All-American recognition in singles after going 19-7 overall and earning a top 16 seed into the NCAA Singles Championship. She spent the entire dual season ranked in the top 25 nationally, climbing as high as No. 13, and finished at No. 22 in the final polls. An all-ACC second team honoree, Flores went 13-4 from the No. 2 singles position. She went 8-5 against ACC opponents, helping lead Tech to the ACC Championship title match.

As a doubles team, Flores and Jones went 23-4 overall, including a 21-3 dual mark and 8-1 ACC ledger, all from the No. 1 spot. They finished the season ranked No. 2 in the final ITA national polls after climbing as high as No. 1 in the country for two consecutive weeks in March. Flores and Jones earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship, earning the No. 3 overall seed. This is the second ITA All-American recognition for Flores and Jones as a pair having earned the prestigious honor in 2020. Jones also collected doubles ITA All-American recognition in 2018.

The All-American title is given to student-athletes that earn a top 16 seed in the NCAA singles championship, advance to the round of 16 at the NCAA championship, or finish in the top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings. The All-American status is awarded to doubles teams that earn a top-eight seed into the NCAA championship, reach the NCAA championship quarterfinals, or finish in the top 10 of the final ITA doubles rankings.
