Five minutes with Alade Aminu

Dec. 30, 2005

My teammates call me: “I’ve been called Ali, which is short for Alade.”

Favorite food or meal of all-time: “Lasagna with carrot cake as a dessert.”

Latest music CD I bought: “Lil’ Wayne.”

Favorite musical artist: “It would have to be a tie between Lil’ Wayne and Young Jeezy.”

Last movie I rented or watched in the theater: “Well, I can’t remember the last one I’ve seen but I’m going to see Get Rich or Die Tryin’ when it comes out.”

Favorite TV show: “SportsCenter.”

Favorite pro sports team: “I’d have to say the Detroit Pistons. I like the chemistry they all have and the fact that they play so well together.”

Person I would most like to meet (dead or alive): “Kevin Garnett. I like his game and we both play the same position and have the same style. He can step out and play on the wing, give out assists, and can block so he basically does it all.”

Team I would like to add to the schedule: “I’d like to play Cincinnati or Connecticut because I have friends that are there and it would be nice to play against them.”

Favorite sport to watch other than basketball: “Football, and I would pick college football because it’s more exciting.”

Most memorable moment in basketball: “Winning the national championship in basketball down in Orlando and also playing in the AAU Kingwood Classic in Texas.”

Best non-athletic talent: “I think being sociable and just being me.”

Who had the greatest influence on your athletic career? “I’d have to say my mom and my family. During the bad and good times, my mom has always been there to support me and make sure that my grades were always where they needed to be since education is very important in my family.”

If there was another sport at Tech you could play, what would it be? “I would play receiver or quarterback, and maybe also run track since I did that in high school.”

If you had to exchange wardrobes with someone on the team, whose clothes would you want?Lewis Clinch, because we both have a very similar style of clothes.”

If you could have season tickets for any team, sitting in any place in the stadium, which team would it be and where would you sit? “I’d like to sit on the bench at a San Antonio Spurs game because they’re the world champions and I could definitely learn from watching them play.”

If you could relive any single family outing, what would it be? “We took a trip from Georgia to Costa Rica when I was in tenth grade and we drove through Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. It took about ten days and we stopped in each country and also in Costa Rica since we had family there.”

Do you have any pre-game rituals? “I always pray, and if something has worked in previous games, I try to do it again like wearing a wrist band.”

What is the best thing about being a college athlete at Tech? “It’s nice to get the recognition for being an athlete and the good things you do for Tech. They also help you out with academics and providing tutors so you can keep your grades where they need to be.”

If you could make one thing come true for a friend, what would it be and for whom? “Scotty Bynum, who was on the same high school team as me. I wish he could have played Division I basketball with me.”
