Five Jackets Named to ACC All-Academic Football Team

Jan. 30, 2003

Georgia Tech football standouts Dan Dyke, Luke Manget, Jeremy Muyres, Kelley Rhino and Daryl Smith were named to the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic football team, announced Thursday by Commissioner John Swofford.

To be eligible, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the fall semester or have maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Dyke (Winter Springs, Fla.), a four-year starter as Tech’s punter and a four-time Verizon Academic All-America, is the only four-time honoree on the 33-member ACC All-Academic team. Muyres (Stone Mountain, Ga.), Tech’s all-ACC free safety, made the team for the third season in a row and record-setting punt return specialist Rhino (Smyrna, Ga.) for the second straight year. Manget (Conyers, Ga.), Tech’s all-ACC kicker and all-time leading scorer, and Smith (Albany, Ga.), the Jackets’ leading tackler from his linebacker position, were first-time selections. Also on the ACC All-Academic team is Virginia quarterback Matt Schaub, the 2002 ACC Player of the Year, and five players who earned All-America recognition this past season – Florida State’s Brett Williams, Maryland’s Todd Wike, Steve Suter and Madieu Williams and NC State’s Chris Colmer.
