Five Jackets Attain NCAA Region Qualifying Marks at Walt Disney World Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. – Sophomore Shantia Moss clocked a NCAA Region qualifying time of 13.50 in the women’s 100-meter high hurdles, finishing first, to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Walt Disney World Invitational on Saturday.

Junior Fatmata Fofanah finished second in the women’s 100m HH, posting a time of 13.60. Sophomore Tenisha Griggs finished sixth with a time of 14.12.

Senior Brandy Depland finished first in the women’s triple jump with a NCAA Region qualifying mark of 43 feet, 5 ¾ inches. Freshman Nigel Orr finished second in the men’s event with a mark of 48 feet, 5 ¼ inches, while sophomore Jerome Miller posted a mark of 47 feet, 11 ¼ inches, to finish in third place.

In the shot put, redshirt freshman Andy Powlen tallied a NCAA Region qualifying mark of 57 feet to finish in second place for the Jackets. Freshman April Philips finished third in the women’s shot with a NCAA Region mark of 47 feet, 1 ½ inches.

Senior Alex Van Heuven posted a mark of 5 feet, 7 inches, in the women’s high jump to finish in fifth place.

Tech will host the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 1-2, at the George C. Griffin Track. The meet will begin with the hammer throw on Friday.
