Sept. 30, 2008
ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech campus will be a busy place this weekend, and fans are invited to stick around the midtown area for various Yellow Jacket sporting events all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The men’s tennis team will start things off Friday morning on the first day of the three-day Georgia Tech Fall Invitational at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Top players from around the nation, including student-athletes from the University of Georgia, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Clemson in addition to the host Yellow Jackets, will be competing in the event. The tournament will be held all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Yellow Jacket volleyball team also competes Friday when it hosts Florida State at 7 p.m. at O’Keefe Gym. The Jackets’ match will serve as a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation, as the Yellow Jackets’ “Dig for the Cure” against the Seminoles. More details on the event, which Tech has raised more than $13,000 for over the last two years, can be found HERE.
Fans can plan to spend all day Saturday on the Flats, starting with the morning tennis matches at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational to be followed by the 12 p.m. football game against Duke. The Yellow Jackets welcome a talented Blue Devil team that arrives in Atlanta with a 3-1 record in 2008. Tech’s football team will arrive 2.5 hours before kickoff, so fans should make sure to be around Bobby Dodd Stadium to wish the Yellow Jackets good luck. Then after the game, don’t forget to return to O’Keefe Gym to watch the Yellow Jackets take on Miami in volleyball.
On Sunday, fans can watch the Yellow Jacket softball team host Jacksonville State in a doubleheader, beginning at 2 p.m., at Glen Field. The Jackets are playing all of their fall games at Glen Field before moving into their new stadium, located on campus, this spring. The men’s tennis team will also conclude their Georgia Tech Fall Invitational with a series of singles and doubles matches Sunday afternoon.
