Falconi Repeats at Norman Wilkerson Memorial Tournament

July 18, 2010

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech rising junior Irina Falconi upended Allie Will of Florida, 6-1, 6-4 to repeat as the Norman Wilkerson Memorial Tournament Pro Circuit 10K singles champion Sunday.

Falconi, who did not lose a set in her five matches at the tournament, earned her fourth career title and first of the 2010 season.

The All-American made quick work of Will, who is also a member of the USTA Summer Collegiate team, in the first set, opening a 4-0 lead before taking the set 6-1. Will would not go away easily, fighting Falconi point for point in the second set but the Tech standout was able to hold on for the 6-4 win.

Falconi also reached the finals of the doubles draw with former USC standout Maria Sanchez but the duo dropped the match to Kristy Frilling and Julia Glushko, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.

Falconi will next travel to Lexington, Ky., for the Fifth Third Bank Tennis Championships at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. For more information, please visit here.
