WHISTLER, British Columbia – Former Yellow Jacket Irina Falconi closed out a tremendous week by falling just short of earning the singles and doubles titles at the 2010 Odlum Brown Vancover Open at the Hollyburn Country Club.
The Odlum Brown Vancouver Open is one of three USTA Pro Circuit $75,000 women’s events held this year and it is the last Pro Circuit event before the US Open.
Falconi, who has earned a career-high world ranking of No. 385 in singles, reached the semifinals of the singles draw before falling to former No. 4 in the world and eventual champion Jelena Dokic, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-3. On her way to the semifinals, Falconi had impressive wins against No. 121 Stephanie Dubois of Canada and No. 249 Lauren Albanese of the United States.
In the doubles draw, Falconi and Amanda Fink rolled all the way to the finals but ultimately fell to Kai-Chen Chang and Heidi El Tabakh, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
Falconi has produced a 13-2 singles record this summer and is 7-3 in doubles play. She earned her fourth career Pro Circuit singles title last month at the Norman Wilkerson Memorial Tournament in Atlanta.
