THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis senior Christopher Eubanks looks to continue making waves as he preps to battle Jared Donaldson in the second round of the BB&T Atlanta Open.
Once again in front of his hometown crowd on the now familiar courts at Atlantic Station, Eubanks will take on Donaldson on Thursday, July 27 at 6 p.m.
Eubanks was sensational in his first round main draw event, downing Taylor Fritz – the 125th-ranked ATP singles competitor – in Atlantic Station, battling through a grind-it-out tiebreaker to take the first set and overcoming a slow start to take the first break of the match to win the second set 6-4.
Now, with his first ATP singles main draw win under his belt, the two-time ACC Player of the Year and all-American sets his sights on his second round opponent – Jared Donaldson, who is currently ranked 59th in the ATP singles.
Donaldson, 20, is a 6-2 right-handed player out of Providence, R.I., currently in his third year of professional play. In his first round of action in the Atlanta Open, Donaldson downed Ernesto Escobedo 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the second round.
Prior to the Atlanta Open, Donaldson made it to the round of 32 at Wimbledon, downing Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic (5-0 (RET)) and Paolo Lorenzi of Italy (6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2). He would eventually fall to eighth-ranked Dominic Thlem of Austria (5-7, 4-6, 2-6). On the year, Donaldson is 10-12 with a 21-31 career record.
