TULSA, Okla. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis junior Christopher Eubanks showed no signs of letting up after his hot summer as he advanced to the round of 16 at the Saint Francis Health Systems ITA All-American Championships on Friday morning.
Eubanks keeps rolling as he moved on with a 6-2, 6-3 win over California’s No. 61 Billy Griffith. Eubanks quickly took the first set, 6-2. He jumped out to a strong lead in the second set but Griffith edge his way back in narrow his lead to 5-3. Eubanks didn’t waver after that, sealing the match and the second set, 6-3.
Eubanks will take on Christian Seraphim of Wake Forest. Seraphim, a qualifier, toppled No. 15 William Bushamuka, 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 32.
Eubanks and Benito battled against No. 2 Filip Bergevi and Florian Lakat of California in the doubles round of 16 on Friday afternoon. The Jackets struck first, securing the first game of the match but the pairs went back and forth and knotted the first set at six to force a tiebreaker. California stole the first set with the tiebreaker, 7-6. In the second set, the Bergevi and Lakat jumped out to an early lead and carried the momentum from their first set win to take the match, 7-6, 6-2.
