THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis junior Christopher Eubanks received a wild card into the singles main draw of the BB&T Atlanta Open on Monday afternoon as part of the annual College Night which is slated for Tuesday, July 25 at Atlantic Station.
No stranger to the Atlantic Station courts, Eubanks received wild-card entry to both the doubles and singles main draws in 2015 and won a local wild-card tournament in 2016 into the singles qualifying draw. The Westlake High School product topped American Tommy Paul and Thiago Montiero of Brazil in the 2016 qualifying rounds to gain entry to the main draw.
Eubanks was named the 2017 ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, earning the honor in back-to-back years. The Atlanta native carries a 27-5 overall record and a 17-2 ledger in dual match play this season. Cemented at the No. 1 spot in the Tech lineup, the 6-foot-7 All-American took ACC Player of the Week honors twice this season.
He has been ranked in the top 10 among singles players since April 2016 and this year he reached as high as No. 4. The junior makes his return to the NCAA singles championship for the third-straight year as the No. 7 seed.
Eubanks and the rest of the Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, May 12 when they take on Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA Championship in Gainesville, Fla. The match is slated for 2 p.m.
