THE FLATS – Less than 24 hours after downing his first top-100 ATP competitor, Georgia Tech men’s tennis senior Christopher Eubanks (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake HS) will be back at it, looking to continue his impressive run through the BB&T Atlanta Open as he takes on Ryan Harrison in the quarterfinals on Friday, July 28.
Eubanks and Harrison will square off in the second match after 2 p.m. in the stadium court of Atlantic Station – a place that has largely become a home crowd for the 21-year-old Eubanks.
After a three-plus-hour rain delay, the Yellow Jacket defeated 59th-ranked Jared Donaldson in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, to advance forward to the quarterfinals. The two-time ACC Player of the Year and all-American defeated Taylor Fritz in his first round match to begin Atlanta Open action. Eubanks needed only two sets to move past Fritz, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
Just prior to Eubanks’ Thursday night match, Harrison captured his ticket to the next round by downing John Millman in come-from-behind fashion, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5.
The 25-year-old professional – currently seated at No. 42 in the ATP singles rankings with an 85-120 record overall entering this tournament – has had an impressive year so far going 11-14 and winning the Memphis Open in February in straight-sets the entire way.
Seeded fourth in the tournament, the Shreveport, La. native is coming most recently off a 1-1 performance at Wimbledon.
Eubanks and Harrison have an estimated start time of 3:30-4 p.m. with the match being broadcast live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
