Greensboro, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Christopher Eubanks has been named the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year and headlines the 2016 All-ACC Team announced on Thursday. Tech junior Carlos Benito was chosen third-team All-ACC.

Eubanks is the first Yellow Jacket to be voted Player of the Year since Guillermo Gomez in 2011, and the fifth overall. He joins a list that also includes Bryan Shelton in 1985, Jens Skjoedt in 1990 and Benjamin Cassaigne in 1999.
“Chris set a goal to be much more consistent this season than last season. He definitely achieved that goal. He deserves a lot of credit because he won a lot of close matches,” said Tech coach Kenny Thorne. “Playing at the number 1 spot in the ACC is a tough ask for anyone. Chris has embraced that position, and the exciting thing is that his game can get a lot better. But what we are most proud of is Chris has competed like a champion and carried himself with humility and integrity. Alumni can be very proud of the way Chris represents Georgia Tech.”
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, the sophomore has compiled a 32-6 record in singles, including an 11-1 mark in ACC play, from his No. 1 singles position. Eubanks has been in the top 15 of the ITA Singles Rankings all season, and has been ranked as high as No. 6. An All-ACC second team selection in 2015, and has defeated a dozen ranked opponents this year. In doubles, Eubanks has paired with teammate Benito to compile a 14-3 record and rise to their current national ranking of No. 42.
Benito, a junior from Madrid, Spain, went 7-4 in ACC play with a pair of victories over ranked foes playing in the No. 2 position. After missing the entire fall due to back problems, he has gone 12-10 in dual matches this spring and has won 10 of his last 15 matches heading into the post-season.
Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest was named Freshman of the Year, and the Demon Deacons’ Tony Bresky took home Coach of the Year honors, after guiding the program to its first-ever ACC Championship.
The All-ACC team and individual season honors were selected by a vote of the league’s 13 head coaches. The all-conference team has representatives from twelve institutions, led by Virginia’s six selections. North Carolina and Virginia Tech each had four student-athletes voted All-ACC, while NC State and Wake Forest each had three honorees. Florida State, Georgia Tech and Notre Dame had two All-ACC selections, and there was one honoree each for Clemson, Duke, Miami and Louisville.
