THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Eduardo Segura, whose singles and doubles victories keyed the Yellow Jackets victory over No. 17 South Carolina last Friday, has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Tuesday.
Segura scored a straight-set victory over Andrew Adams of South Carolina at the No. 3 singles position to help Georgia Tech stun the 17th-ranked Gamecocks, 4-2, keeping the Yellow Jackets undefeated at 4-0. His 6-4, 6-2 win put the Yellow Jackets ahead for the first time, 3-2, in the match. The Madrid, Spain, junior also partnered with freshman and fellow Spaniard Carlos Benito to capture a 6-2 win over South Carolina’s Kyle Koch and Chip Cox, the nation’s 24th-ranked doubles team, to remain undefeated in dual matches this spring. He is 3-1 in dual-match singles play.
Virginia’s Julia Elbaba, who is the nation’s 11th-ranked singles player, won the women’s honor after posting a 2-0 mark in singles play in a 6-1 win against No. 44 VCU and a 5-2 triumph versus No. 33 South Carolina.
