DuBard Takes Eighth, McKeirnan Shines On Day One Of ACC Championships

DURHAM, N.C. – After day one of competition at the 2011 ACC Championships , Mary Kate DuBard helped the Yellow Jackets onto the scoreboard with her eighth place finish in the 10,000 meter run. DuBard clocked a time of 35:52.29 in the race that took place at Wallace Wade Stadium on the campus of Duke University.

Also seeing success on the day was senior multi eventer Kayla McKeirnan who set three season best marks in four events during day one of the heptathlon. McKeirnan took second place in the high jump with a season best height of 1.69 meters, and fourth in the 100 hurdles (14.32), shot put (11.25 meters), and 200 meter dash (25.56) setting season bests in the running races en route to tallying 3,241 points after the first day.

Her multi event partner, Monique Pate also saw personal success on the day setting season and career bests in the same events. Pate earned a 12th place finish in the 100 Hurdles (15.45), ninth in the high jump (1.57 meters), fifth in the shot put (11.07 meters), and 10th in the 200 meter dash (26.49), finishing with 2,839 points at the end of the day.

Also competing on the day were Felicity Brower, D.J. McMillan and Obiandu Igwe. Brower was alongside DuBard in the 10,000 meter run finishing in 16th place with a time of 37:17.38. McMillan and Igwe competed for the Jackets on the men’s side of that race. McMililan finished just outside of the pointgetters crossing the line 10th with a time of 30:30.66. Igwe took home 21st place with a time of 31:52.15 in the race.

McKeirnan and Pate will finish out their time at the meet when the multi events conclude tomorrow, Friday, April 22 while the majority of the Jackets will begin their action at the ACC Championships.
