Divar Tabbed to All-ACC First Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After earning a national ranking in both singles and doubles for Georgia Tech men’s tennis, junior Carlos Divar was selected to the 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference all-conference first team, the league announced Thursday.

Divar earns the nomination standing at No. 30 in the country, accumulating over 25 wins in singles and doubles.

The Vitoria, Spain, native started the year off with a bang, defeating the then-No. 2 player, Jan Zielinkski from the University of Georgia, 6-3, 6-4, in the MLK Tournament.

Divar continued his success throughout the season earning 12 wins while manning both the No.1 and No. 2 courts and was named  ACC co-player of the week for his impactful performance in wins over NC State and Louisville.

“This is a great honor for Carlos being in what I consider the best tennis conference in the nation,” praised tennis head coach Kenny Thorne.  “What is even more impressive is that Carlos was coming off a summer where he had hip surgery. A well-deserved honor for him.”

In doubles, Divar spent most of the season paired with senior Phillip Gresk. The duo boasted a 13-5 record and was named ACC doubles team of the week after defeating two ranked teams in No. 47 Alexis Galarneau/Michael Ogden, 7-6 (7) of NC State and No. 90 Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff/Fabien Salle of Louisville, 6-1.

Divar will join elite company as he is first Yellow Jacket to be named to the men’s tennis all-ACC first team since Christopher Eubanks back in 2017.

The Jackets await their fate to see if they qualify for the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship after finishing the regular season with an 11-11 record, with wins over then-No. 7 North Carolina and then-No. 21 Florida State. The announcement will come on Monday, April 29 at 6:00 p.m.
