Depland, Stowers, and Shosho Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Brandy Depland, Evan Stowers, and Lyndsay Shosho were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, March 13, 2006.

Depland, a senior from Katy, Texas, led the Yellow Jackets to their third consecutive top-26 finish at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. Depland saved her best leap for her last, posting a personal-record and Tech school record mark of 44 feet, 9 3/4 inches, to finish second in the women’s triple jump. For her effort, Depland earned All-America honors for the first time in her career during the indoor season, and second time overall in the triple jump.

Stowers, a sophomore from Independence, Ky., led Georgia Tech at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships last weekend in his home state of Kentucky. Stowers became the first Yellow Jacket diver to make the NCAA Championshps by qualifying on the men’s platform on Sunday. Stowers finished sixth with a score of 630.50, making the championship meet for the first time in his career. He finished 11th on the three-meter springboard with a score of 582.65 and 13th on the one-meter board with a score of 553.00.

Shosho, a senior from East Amherst, NY, helped the women’s tennis team improve to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the ACC with three singles and two doubles victories on the week. She began the week with a three-set win over No. 19 Taka Bertrand of Vanderbilt and also went 2-0 against conference foes, including a straight set win over Virginia Tech and a three-set victory against Virginia.
