Feb. 6, 2006

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Brandy Depland and North Carolina’s Laura Gerraughty were named Atlantic Coast Conference female track and field Co-Performers of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.

Depland, a senior from Katy, Texas, shattered the school record in the triple jump with a NCAA Automatic qualifying mark of 44 feet, 2 inches, to finish in first place at the Meyo Invitational on Saturday in South Bend, Ind. That mark was a meet and Notre Dame Loftus Sports Center track record, and currently stands as the top mark in the nation.

Gerraughty registered her second straight NCAA automatic qualifying standard in the women’s shot put in as many weeks, throwing a season best mark of 60 feet, 7 ¼ inches, at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y. The senior set a meet and Armory facility record in the shot put en route to being named Female Most Outstanding Performer. Gerraughty’s mark currently sits as tops in the ACC and in the nation.

The Yellow Jackets will be in action again on Friday at the Tiger Classic in Clemson, S.C.
