Depland and Gibbs Lead Jackets on Day Two of Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior Brandy Depland tallied a NCAA Provisional and personal-best mark of 43 feet, 4 ¼ inches, in the women’s long jump and freshman E.C. Gibbs won the men’s 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:56.00 to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Clemson Invitational on Saturday.

Senior Andriane Lapsley tallied three top-five finishes for the Yellow Jackets. Lapsley finished fourth in the women’s 60-meter dash and 60-meter high hurdles with times of 7.55 and 8.60, respectively. She posted a mark of 40 feet, 7 ¾ inches, to finish fourth in the triple jump.

Junior Ashlee Kidd posted a pair of top-five finishes for Tech. Kidd ran a time of 24.36 in the women’s 200m to finish third, and clocked a time of 7.56 in the 60m to finish fifth.

Sophomore Jerome Miller finished second in the men’s high jump with a clear of 6 feet, 11 ¾ inches, and finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 47 feet, 10 inches.

Freshman Shantrell Moss clocked a time of 24.87 in the 200-meter dash to finish fifth.

Junior Jenny Sims crossed the finish line in second place in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:18.38. Freshman Nigel Orr finished third in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 48 feet, 3 ½ inches.

Also tallying third-place finishes for the Jackets were sophomores Derek Hoye and Nisha Kurian. Hoye posted a time of 48.43 in the men’s 800 meters, while Kurian ran a personal-record time of 5:01.07 in the women’s mile.

In the men’s mile, junior David Herren and Rob Kuhn tallied top-five finishes for Tech. Herren clocked a season-best time of 4:20.41 to finish fourth, while Kuhn finished fifth with a time of 4:25.25.

Senior Misty Dirksen and redshirt freshman Andy Powlen rounded out top-four finishes for the Yellow Jackets. Dirksen posted a time of 2:19.73 in the women’s 800 meters, while Powlen finished with a mark of 52 feet, 11 inches, in the men’s shot put.

Sophomore Tenisha Griggs matched her season-best time of 8.63 in the women’s 60m hurdles to cross the finish line in fifth place.

The Jackets will compete at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington. Ky., Jan. 27-28.
