ATHENS, Ga. — Day one of the Spec Towns Invitational is in the books for the Georgia Tech track and field team Friday afternoon at Spec Towns Track. The men’s field events were moved to Saturday because of inclement weather with action beginning at 11 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw and the men’s pole vault at 12 p.m.
The men’s 4×100-meter relay run by Zachary Gunnz, Spencer Allen, Andreas Ward and Alexander Reese finished in a time of 41.75. Allen and Ward also competed in the 110-meter hurdles and finished in 14.32 and 15.32, respectively.
The men’s 4×400-meter relay team of Reese, Julian Darden, Cole Jackob and Nico Metzler finished in 3:26.59.
Witt Nix finished first for Georgia Tech and ninth overall in the 1,500 meters in a career-best time of 4:01.56. Andrew Anastasiades followed in 10th (4:02.02) and Grant Hicks placed 11th (4:02.41).
Nico Metzler placed fourth in the 800 meters in a time of (1:53.16). Cole Jackob finished fifth (1:53.18), followed by Nat Estes (sixth; 1:53.58) and Gabriel Darosa (7th; 1:54.22).
Reese finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 48.21. Also in the sprints, Gunnz ran a 10.71 in the 100 meters followed by Ryan Thomas in 11.31. Gunnz also ran the 200 meters in 21.49.
Darden ran the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.54, and Rockne Burns followed in a time of 57.37.
The men’s team competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the first time this season led by Justin Weaver’s time of 9:49.97 in third place. Alex Grady (9:58.65), Miles Dayoub (10:03.59) and Sam Millson (10:22.07) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
