GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech senior defensive tackle Darryl Richard, who recorded a team-high three tackles-for-loss, forced a fumble and batted down a Chris Crane pass in Saturday’s 19-16 win at Boston College, was named the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week.
Richard keyed an impressive performance by the Yellow Jacket defense, which held Boston College to just 60 total yards in the second half. Tech held the Eagles scoreless in the fourth quarter as the Yellow Jackets rallied for a 19-16 win in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Richard is the second Yellow Jacket to earn ACC weekly honors this season. Senior Andrew Gardner was the ACC’s Offensive Lineman of the Week in Week 1.
Richard, currently a graduate student at Tech, leads the ACC in tackles-for-loss this season with four. He has 26 career tackles-for-loss, which ranks fourth among all active ACC players.
Other ACC winners this week include Wake Forest quarterback Riley Skinner (Offensive Back of the Week), Florida State tackle Rodney Hudson (Offensive Lineman of the Week), NC State’s Nate Irving (Defensive Back of the Week), Wake Forest kicker Sam Swank (Specialist of the Week) and Duke’s Johnny Williams (Rookie of the Week).
Georgia Tech plays at Virginia Tech Saturday (3:30 p.m./ABC).
