Cross Country Teams Finish Seventh

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Georgia Tech’s men’s and women’s cross country teams both finished seventh, respectively, at the ACC Championships Monday, which were hosted by the University of Virginia. Sophomore Joe Stegall (Ryder, Ga.) placed 18th in a time of 25:29.8 to lead the men, while senior Judy Johnson (Snellville, Ga.) finished 22nd in a mark of 18:21.2to pace the women’s team.

Following Stegall for the men was senior Brad Mills (Toledo, Ohio), who placed 38th, while sophomore Todd Gandee (Peachtree City, Ga.) placed 49th for the Jackets. Senior Michael Niederhausen (Peachtree City, Ga.) was 51st, and sophomore Joey Zins (Atlanta, Ga.) with 52 to round out Tech’s scorers.

Sophomore Carolyn Kreiger (Marietta, Ga.) followed Johnson for the women’s team as she was 45th and junior Becky Megesi (Jonesboro, Ga.) placed 46th. Rounding out the scorers for Tech was sophomore Sara Purdue (Aurora, Co.), who was 50th and junior Tina Frey (Peachtree City, Ga.), who was 53rd after finishing in a time of 19:31.5.

N.C. State captured both the men’s and women’s team titles after both squads placed four individuals each in the top 10.

Tech will next be in action on Nov. 14 at the NCAA District IX championship in Birmingham, Ala.
