THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech cross country team splits up this weekend to participate in two competitions in the team’s final tune up for the ACC Championships on Nov. 1. Part of the team will compete in the Berry Invitational in Rome, Ga. at 8:45 a.m. ET Saturday, while the other half of the team heads to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Pre-Nationals Invitational hosted by Indiana State.
The Georgia Tech men enter the weekend ranked ninth in the most recent USTFCCCA South Region Poll, while the women weigh in at No. 13.
Thirteen members of the men’s team are set to run in the 8K blue race at the Pre-Nationals scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET. Georgia Tech is one of 52 teams in the race at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, which will play host to the NCAA Championship meet on Nov. 23.
The men’s field includes solid competition, featuring Oklahoma State and Colorado, currently ranked 1-2 nationally, along with Oregon (4), Tulsa (9), Princeton (10), Indiana (12), Iona (18), Boise State (19), Villanova (23), Georgetown (24) and Stanford (29).
The women’s team sends 12 athletes to the 6K white race at the Pre-Nationals slated to begin at 12:55 p.m. as Georgia Tech competes among 35 teams.
While the top Yellow Jackets will compete Saturday in Indiana, a second tier of Jackets will race Saturday morning at the Berry Invitational. A number of Tech runners, men and women, will be competing for spots on the 10-member ACC Championship teams in a competitive environment.
