THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to compete in the 2012 ACC Championships on Virginia Tech’s Cross Country Course at Smithfield Plantation in Blacksburg, Va. The women’s 6k race will start at 10 a.m., followed by the men’s 8k competition at 10:50 a.m.
Tech will run the VT Cross Country Course for the second time this season after competing in the Virginia Tech invitational earlier this year where the men took home second place and the women placed fourth.
The women’s race will feature three schools ranked in the top 30 of the weekly USTFCCCA poll. For the second-straight year Florida State enters the ACC championship as the nation’s top-ranked team. The Seminoles are followed by Duke (11th) and Boston College (26th).
On the men’s side, Florida State enters Saturday’s competition as the highest ranked ACC team at No. 14 nationally, while Duke is 18th and Virginia Tech is 21st.
Eight men’s teams are ranked in the USTCCCA regional polls with Georgia Tech weighing in at fourth in the South Region. The women are ranked 11th in the South Polls and join 10 additional ACC teams in the regional polls.
The Yellow Jacket men are coming off a first-place performance for the second-consecutive year at the Crimson Classic, while the women placed sixth.
