Oct. 12, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country readies for its final race before the ACC Tournament as the Yellow Jackets head to Alabama for the Crimson Classic on Friday, Oct. 13 at Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa.

The women are scheduled to run at 9 a.m. while the men begin their race at 9:45 a.m.

The men enter the weekend ranked No. 4 in the USTFCCCA South region – the highest ACC program in the region – while the women rose two spots to rank No. 8 in the region this week.

The Crimson Classic will bolster an impressive field for both the men and the women. On the men’s side, of the 29 teams, 12 programs find themselves ranked entering the race – Alabama, Auburn, Belmont, Florida State, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, North Florida, Samford, UT-Martin, Texas A&M and UT-Arlington.

For the women’s race, 14 of the 31 teams participating are nationally ranked, including Alabama, Auburn, Belmont, Florida State, Lipscomb, LSU, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Samford, Southern Miss, Texas A&M and UAB.

Georgia Tech cross country comes off a strong outing in the tough Paul Short Invitational where the men finished 10th overall and the women finished 11th.

The men were paced by another fine showing from Nahom Solomon, who finished fourth overall with a 23:41 time. Alex Grady finished 46 seconds back for a time of 24:27 (49th), while Mitchell Sanders and Patrick Fleming round out the top 100, finishing 88th and 98th, respectively.

The women had one of their best team performances of the season, with Amy Ruiz picking up a 37th-place finish and a time of 20:40 while Mary Prouty and freshman Nicole Fegans rounded out Tech’s top-100 finishers with 20:44 (41st) and 21:03 (77th) times, respectively.
