THE FLATS – After a week off, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. Friday for the Crimson Classic at Harry Pritchett Running Park hosted by Alabama. The women’s 5K will begin at 6:00 p.m. ET, followed by the men’s 8K at 6:30 p.m. ET.
The Georgia Tech women’s team will be one of 37 squads to compete, including nine USTFCCCA regionally ranked teams. On the men’s side, 33 teams will race and 11 of those teams are regionally ranked.
The Yellow Jackets are ranked in the South Region with the women at No. 12 and the men sitting at No. 9.
Last time out at the Upstate Invitational, the women’s team won its first meet of the season with 33 points, nine points in front of second-place finisher North Florida (42). The Georgia Tech men placed second out of 15 teams with 54 total points.
Tech benefitted from standout individual performances from seniors Jeremy Greenwald and Katie Townsend. Greenwald captured his third-straight first place finish in the men’s 8K with a time of 24:58. Townsend paced the women’s team with a 5K time of 17:51 pace and finished third overall out of 161 runners.
